Occupational Therapy and wellness programs that help manage the physical and mental health needs of clients, groups, and communities.
Welcome! I’m Heidi!
OTD, M.Ed., E-RYT, CTP
I’m a mother of three adult children, a wife, an educator, a holistic and community-based healthcare practitioner, and the owner of Align OT on Long Island, New York.
With more than 30 years of experience, I specialize in myofascial release, yoga, sound therapy, and using a holistic approach to help your child find the tools they need to align and thrive. I have worked with all populations and age ranges but specialize in working with ages 5-18, especially after observing the firsthand effects of pandemic has had on the public’s mental health and well-being, including isolation, loneliness, illness, and grief. For the last eight years, I have focused on addressing the mental health needs of different communities, using the Integrated Listening Program and Brief Action Planning (BAP) here.
Through nature, creative arts, sound therapy, myofascial release yoga, and aromatherapy, I tailor a program dedicated to your child’s and family’s needs. My experience in and outside of the school system has helped me create unique evidence-based programs that are diverse and tailored to the cognitive, emotional, and physical needs of each client/group/population.
I am passionate about assisting your child, your family, and the community through life’s transitions and finding ways to regulate and manage emotions using simple and effective tools.
My Philosophy
Alignment requires looking at the whole person from different angles. As a holistic practitioner with a strength-based and neurodiverse perspective, I have come to believe that people need to be inspired and encouraged in different and unique ways to make small shifts toward bigger goals, regardless of age, race, and learning styles. I believe people want self-knowledge presented in a way that allows them to make the choices that best serves them, if presented in a way that makes sense to them and that will help them live the life they want, need, and desire.
What is Occupational Therapy?
As an Occupational Therapy practitioner (OTP), I promote health, well-being, and participation. I focus on the things you and your child want, need, and love to do that create meaning. Among those occupations and roles are parenting, engaging in sports, maintaining friendships, taking care of yourself and others, working, student, and engaging in leisure activities. Most importantly, I develop a plan of action, adapting and modifying, helping explore your strengths, interests, and challenges, so you can overcome barriers and increase participation in meaningful activities.
